BREAKING: The US House of Representatives has officially opened for debate in Washington DC ahead of a historic impeachment vote against President Donald Trump on charges that he abused his power and obstructed Congress. 9News
"During this very prayerful moment in our nation's history, we must honor our oath to support and defend our Constitution from all enemies, foreign and domestic."American political history is set to be made in the US House of Representatives with President Donald Trump on the brink of being impeached.
The US House is set to vote on a series of impeachment article charges against the President that could line up a Senate trial against him in 2020.He was also counting on nearly US$400 million in military aid as his country confronts a hostile neighbor, Russia. Protesters lined up on the streets in Washington on the eve of the impeachment articles vote in the US House.
Portraying himself as a blameless victim, as he often does, Trump compared the impeachment inquiry to the "Salem Witch Trials." Asked later if he bore any responsibility for the proceedings, he said, "No, I don't think any. Zero, to put it mildly." Trump "betrayed the Nation by abusing his high office to enlist a foreign power in corrupting democratic elections," the resolution says.
"I'm not an impartial juror," McConnell declared. The Republican-majority chamber is all but sure to acquit the president.
