Teaching the younger generation about the event important but often a difficult task – but there are around 1,000 volunteers at the 9/11 Tribute Museum where guides share their first-hand stories. Almost 3,000 people died in New York, at the Pentagon and on United Airlines Flight 93 in Pennsylvania. The dozens of documentaries and feature films on 9/11 help to keep some stories alive, with many of these and 9/11 museums aiming to highlight the lasting, wide-ranging impacts of the attack.
American students are also taught about the increase in state powers following 9/11 and the personal freedoms Americans surrendered.
