Ventilation outlet for rail line proposed at popular Sydney pool | Mattonews
Plans to build a ventilation outlet on the grounds of an aquatic centre in Sydney's inner west for an underground railway has raised fears it will force the temporary closure of a popular pool.
A ventilation outlet for the Metro West rail line has been proposed for a grassed area at the Leichhardt Park Aquatic Centre. The council's Labor mayor, Darcy Byrne, described the plans for a ventilation facility within the aquatic centre's grounds as "crazy" because it had more than 800,000 visits every year.
The site of the planned ventilation outlet for a section of the rail line, which will run through tunnels between the Bays Precinct near Rozelle and Five Dock, was also "just metres" from the Bay Run walking and cycling path used by thousands of people every day, he said. "Sydney Metro will aim to minimise impacts on the community wherever possible," the agency said. "Services facilities, which are required to service the rail tunnels, are intended to be as unobtrusive as possible within their surrounding environment."
