Penny Wong, who was born in the Malaysian city of Kota Kinabalu, says it is an honour to represent Australia in the place of her birth, amid bilateral talks in South-East Asia.

Ms Wong, who was born in Kota Kinabalu, said she was honoured to represent Australia at bilateral talks with counterpart Dato' Sri Saifuddin bin Abdullah, in the country of her birth.

He said the family is preparing to recreate traditional Hakka Chinese recipes that their late grandmother cooked for them when they were children.
