A Victorian greyhound trainer has been suspended over allegations of live baiting, prompting renewed calls for a ban on the sport.
While speaking to media today, government minister Gabrielle Williams did not comment on whether the government would commit to an inquiry into the sport, but she said the industry was broken."We have sent a very clear message about that through the investments we have made."
Lara trainer Robert Britton said he was disappointed by the allegations, but was adamant live baiting was not widespread in the industry."The industry has worked so hard to clean up its act. Live baiting basically doesn't occur other than right at the edges in the dark alleys." The kennels in Lara are rented by several trainers including Kenyon. 9News is not suggesting any other trainers at the kennel are suspected of live baiting - only that Kenyon has been suspended while the allegations against him are investigated
