BREAKING: Victoria has recorded another climb in daily coronavirus cases and an additional COVID-related death as some residents enjoy a little freedom with an easing of two restrictions.

Some Victorians will be now able to enjoy the slight easing of restrictions after Premier Daniel Andrews announced on Wednesday the ban on public playgrounds and in-home child care arrangements will be lifted effective 12.01am on Friday.

In-home child care arrangements can be reinstated where families have authorised workers in their household. "There is not one corner of metropolitan Melbourne that is not touched by this virus," Deputy Chief Health Officer Professor Ben Cowie said during Thursday's press conference."It just adds to the sense of exhaustion we have been doing so much to try and keep these numbers down, and then seeing them go up can be really demoralising."

Prof Cowie stressed Victorians must keep coming forward for a vaccine in controlling community transmission and protecting the state's health system.Health Minister Martin Foley announced a number of positive wastewater results have returned with fragments of COVID-19 detected in multiple suburbs across Victoria.Wastewater detections have been reported in Armidale, Prahran, South Yarra, Toorak and Windsor from the period between August 23 to August 30.
