Jason White's victim was left in a critical condition after he dragged her to the ground and left her for dead.
A vicious mugger who left his 80-year-old victim in critical condition has been sent to prison for four years.
Sheriff Paul Brown said: "This was a very serious offence. The degree of culpability was high and the harm caused was significant. A lengthy custodial sentence is inevitable." "Five minutes later the victim was on a pedestrian crossing and White crossed directly behind her. A member of the public saw him grab the victim's handbag. He pulled it with such force it caused the victim to fall to the ground. She landed on her front with no way to break her fall.
Mr Corr told the court Ms McAdam was taken to Ninewells Hospital, where she was found to have suffered a bleed to the brain, multiple facial fractures and severe bruising. "She received several blood transfusions and had poor kidney function as a result of her injuries," he said.
