New population data forecasts that Victoria and New South Wales will be the only states not to benefit from interstate migration over the next year, as Queensland and other states welcome more new residents.

The Centre also said there was a higher than usual migration of people to South Australia and Western Australia that correlated with the end of Melbourne's second lockdown.and the usual patterns of movement, that see most people move to NSW and Victoria, should return in 2022-23.

"Overseas migration is forecast to hit a low in 2020-21 with a net outflow of 100,000 people," it said.
