Victoria's Premier Daniel Andrews says the state has recorded 273 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours and revealed a man in his 70s has died from the disease. Victoria's coronavirus death toll has now risen to 24. Mr Andrews said there were 57 people in Victorian hospitals and 16 of those were in intensive care.

He also declared students no longer have the luxury of learning from classrooms as the state struggles to curb the second wave of infections. He announced all prep to year 10 students will resume online learning from July 20 and there will be no changes for students in years 11 and 12 and those living in regional and remote areas. Schools will remain open for the children of essential workers but they will also learn online from classrooms.
