Victoria recorded the most cases in a 24-hour period since the pandemic began, but epidemiologists are “not concerned” about the number.
Health Minister Jenny Mikakos labelled it a “very concerning number” but a leading epidemiologist isn’t willing to go that far.
That means they can’t leave home unless it’s for medical care, food, exercise or work/study that can’t be done from home. “And to be safe, really, two weeks’ time. That’s why this is a six-week stay at home lockdown. That’s three full life cycles of this virus.”Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton said Victoria’s second wave “may still not have hit our peak”.

Highest daily infections to date: Vic records 317 new cases, two deaths | Sky News AustraliaVictorian Premier Daniel Andrews has confirmed 317 new coronavirus cases in the state making it the highest daily infection rate since the start of the pandemic.\n\nMr Andrews said it was “too early” to be moving onto stage four restrictions.\n\n“Now, I know there’s been a lot of discussion, a lot written and said about possible stage four,” he said.\n\n“There are no announcements to be made about that today. \n\n“That shouldn’t be read to mean there will be announcements made tomorrow, we plan for every single contingency.\n\n“It’s well too early for us to be moving to a whole new stage.”\n\nOf the new infections, 28 are connected to contained outbreaks and 289 are under investigation.\n\nVictoria has 109 patients in hospitals with 29 of those in intensive care.\n\nThe two deaths were both men in their 80s, taking the state’s total to 29.\n
