A $170 million Victorian site will assemble the next generation of infantry fighter vehicles for the nation’s army, strengthening defence ties with an Asian powerhouse.
South Korean company Hanwha has reportedly beaten a German competitor for the $21 billion LAND 400 Phase 3 program, according to a tweet by Defence Connect on Wednesday night.
The project will be aimed at providing the Australian Army with an advanced fleet of 129 infantry vehicles and is expected to bolster our military capabilities. Former Andrews government senior Minister Martin Pakula retweeted the huge win announcement by Defence Connect, an industry news platform for Australia’s defence sector.
The contract is expected to generate $5.7 billion in economic impact in Victoria alone, with it remaining unclear how much of the assembly will take place on Australian soil.
