Jacinta Allan announces measures targeting protests in bid ‘to combat antisemitism’ after synagogue attack
Victorian premier Jacinta Allan says the flags of Hamas and Hezbollah will be banned alongside face coverings at protests as part of a crackdown on demonstrations, including near places of worship.Victorian premier Jacinta Allan says the flags of Hamas and Hezbollah will be banned alongside face coverings at protests as part of a crackdown on demonstrations, including near places of worship.
Allan said the proposals were designed to ensure people could protest without fear and intimidation, and could include safe access zones around places of worship to prohibit protesting. The size and scope of these areas would be subject to consultation with religious leaders, communities and unions, the government said.
“It would be wrong for me to say that everyone who’s attending these protests is antisemitic,” she said.
