The town of Korumburra in Victoria's south-east has come together to celebrate the life of Don and Gail Patterson, who police believe died from mushroom poisoning at a family lunch in July.

"The overwhelming media scrutiny has meant private grieving and tears have been incredibly difficult as homes and churches have been subject to cameras and reporters which have descended on this town," Dr Grimes said. Mr Patterson remembered them as devout Christians and dedicated community members who valued the closeness of their family above all.
Mr Patterson fought tears as he described his parents always waving goodbye to each other when parting ways."It was no fluke that Mum's final message to the family's group chat as she lay in Dandenong Hospital was 'lots of love to you all'." "It was comforting to know that when we said 'see you later' we knew it was true, the only thing we didn't know was when."
