Victorians have been strongly advised to wear face masks indoors and there have been changes to the state’s pandemic orders as COVID-19 hospitalisation rates rise dramatically. 7NEWS
From midnight, if a Victorian has COVID-19 they are allowed to drive a household member to get essential food. The infected person will need to remain in the car and wear a mask at all times.The pressure on hospitals is continuing to build, not only from COVID-19, but also from respiratory illnesses such as cold and flu.COVID-19 hospitalisations in Victoria peaked at 1229 in mid-January during the original Omicron wave.
As cases across the country surge, fuelled by more infectious subvariants, Professor Paul Kelly said hospital systems had come under more pressure due to the rise in cases. He said the emergence of influenza for the first time in three years in Australia had also made the issue worse.
