A Victorian mother-of-three who went missing last month has been linked to her alleged murderer, who attended the same school where she worked. Despite the small-town connection, they had never met. The alleged murderer was arrested at a Ballarat home and is accused of killing the woman on February 4. Her body has not been found yet.
Victorian mother-of-three Samantha Murphy, 51, who went missing last month, has been linked to her alleged murderer Patrick Stephenson, who attended the same school that she worked at. Murphy worked as a volunteer in the uniform shop at St Francis Xavier Primary School where 22-year-old Stephenson, an electrical apprentice from Ballarat, attended when he was a child, 7NEWS understands.
Despite the small-town connection, police have revealed that Murphy and Stephenson, the son of former AFL player Orren Stephenson, had never met. Murphy’s eldest daughter Jess, who is the same age as Stephenson, was also a part of the school community. Stephenson was arrested on Wednesday at a Ballarat home that he and his girlfriend were house-sitting at the time. Police will allege he murdered Murphy at Mount Clear on February 4, the same day Murphy was last seen leaving her East Ballarat home to go for a run. Her body has still not been recovere
