A photo of children in bizarre sleeping quarters at a busy airport has enraged their mother who had no idea it was happening.

John Meredith, 9, was an unaccompanied minor on last Thursday night’s Virgin Australia flight from Brisbane to Sydney, where he was visiting his grandparents.

“My parents were sitting in an empty airport,” she told news.com.au. “I got in touch with them and told them, and they went to the desk and got it confirmed. “My mother said, ‘No, I want to know where you’re taking him, please let me know’, which they agreed to. And then we didn’t hear anything again until 2.30am when they said, ‘John’s OK, here’s his new flight details’.”John was put on a 10am flight from Melbourne to Sydney.

“He was happy, he’s a pretty happy-go-lucky kid, but he just had heart surgery last month and I would never have allowed him to sleep on the floor of an airport,” Ms Meredith said. “It’s not often something like this happens weatherwise in our country but I want something to be changed so this doesn’t happen again,” she said.
