One of Australia’s largest airlines has confirmed they are in “urgent” talks with the Department of Foreign Affairs about possible repatriation flights for Australians living in Israel.
On Monday, Foreign Affairs Minister Penny Wong directed DFAT to commence contingency planning for potential “assisted-departure flights” for Australian nationals currently in Israel.
“Virgin Australia has been contacted by the Australian Government regarding assistance with the repatriation of Australians in Israel,” a spokesperson for the airline told SkyNews.com.au in a statement.The move follows an offer of assistance by competitor Qantas, who revealed in a statement on Tuesday night that they had also offered help to DFAT after misleading media reports claimed the airline was charging excessive fares to Australians leaving Israel.
"We have been in contact with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and offered support for Australians in Israel."
