Liberal Senator Hollie Hughes says the Manly Sea Eagles are in the business of playing rugby league and not “virtue signalling” or “making political statements” as the players prepare to step on the field in a pride jersey.
Up to seven players are set to miss the upcoming game this Thursday night after protesting wearing the jersey.
“This jersey is apparently supposed to be about inclusiveness but is certainly not of people who have strong religious views,” Ms Hughes told Sky News Australia.
