Opposition leader Peter Dutton said it is “good for our country” that the Voice to parliament referendum has been defeated and urged Australians to “accept the result in this great spirit of our democracy”. To Indigenous Australians, Dutton said he will do his “utmost to lead with courage and do what is right to implement the practical solutions required to improve outcomes and close the gap”.
To do that, Dutton said the government needs to urgently “boost law and order, to increase school attendance and employment at many remote communities”. He called on prime minister to shift his focus on the cost of living challenges families are facing. “As the leader of the Opposition, I believe that we need to come together to tackle challenges, to help families struggling with the cost of living.
