The six teal seats, lost by Liberals at the last election, plus Warringah, which Zali Steggall took from Tony Abbott in 2019, were, at the latest count, recording a Yes vote.However, two, in which the result was close, could still switch, given postal votes were trending heavily towards No. “Those seats are gone for the Liberals for at least the next election,” said one Labor strategist of the teal seats.However, with the Liberals working on a two-election plan, its strategists were pointing to defeats for the Voice in marginal Labor seats in western Sydney, the NSW Central Coast and WA.
“The lesson is that you can’t win a referendum when the politicians are divided and actively campaigning on different sides.
