A volunteer working for New South Wales' Rural Fire Service has tragically lost his life battling a blaze in the state's north.

The RFS said on Saturday that the man had been fighting a fire at Bean Creek, in NSW's Kyogle region, when he had suffered a"medical episode."

RFS Commissioner Rob Rogers offered his condolences to the man's family and friends, adding the death served as a solemn reminder of the dangers faced by members of the Service.
