As the WA government looks to expand quarantine boundaries to help stop the spread of the shot-hole borer, a WA arborist who is part of the fight says the pest keeps him awake at night.

The WA government is looking to expand the quarantine zone amid a shot-hole borer infestation throughout Perth .Any expansion of the quarantine zone is unlikely to include regional WA, but country residents have been urged to take precautions to stop the spread.A West Australian arborist says the shot-hole borer is keeping him awake at night as the state government looks to expand quarantine boundaries to stop the spread of the pest."It keeps me up at night," he said.

Mr Crispin said there could be more detections as the weather warmed and the beetle became more active."I would recommend that any mulch that comes onto a property and someone delivers it, try and check back and see where that mulch has come from.WA agriculture minister Jackie Jarvis speaking about extending the quarantine zone for the shot hole borer beetle to the whole Perth metropolitan area.

The quarantine zone covers 25 local government areas, but Agriculture Minister Jackie Jarvis has indicated that area is likely to be expanded to include the entire metropolitan region."If we expand the quarantine area to include the whole metropolitan area, it certainly makes it easier for residents — it makes it clearer.
