WA Premier Mark McGowan calls for more vaccines after ‘per capita’ rollout in tatters | hamishhastie
West Australian Premier Mark McGowan is calling on the federal government to stump up the promised COVID-19 vaccine doses that have been diverted away from Western Australia and into the arms of New South Wales residents.on Monday night found New South Wales’ share had increased to 12 per cent above its population share, at the expense of other states.
“We should not be penalised and punished for putting in place tough measures to keep ourselves COVID free – while at the same time we are doing the right thing and helping Australians in other states,” he said. “I have raised this matter at the last two national cabinet meetings seeking our fair share. The Liberal Party needs to learn there is an Australia outside NSW.”New South Wales is now receiving 45 per cent of the nation’s doses, compared to 32 per cent in June.Despite assurances from the Morrison government the rollout would occur per capita, WA’s share has dropped to 7 per cent compared to its 10 per cent share of the nation’s population.
“This response also included the rapid onboarding of 260 general practices delivering Pfizer in New South Wales, resulting in more points of presence and an additional bring forward of doses for New South Wales.“To balance the bring forwards to New South Wales, the taskforce is expediting the onboarding of primary care sites in other jurisdictions across September to significantly increase points of presence for the Pfizer vaccine and additional doses will be provided to these sites.
