Lisa de Man thought the opening of the Queensland border on Friday would ease traffic, but permits are still being checked as people enter the state and queues are long.
It would usually take five minutes for Lisa de Man to drive from her work in Tweed Heads in northern NSW before commuting to her Gold Coast home.Commuters are stopped by police at the Queensland - NSW border checkpoint in the Gold Coast hinterland at Nerang Murwillumbah Road, near Natural bridge“Last Friday night it would have taken me four hours to get home, so I’ve been staying at a motel for the last three weeks, on and off,” she said. “It’s been nightmare stuff.
“Hopefully something will come up soon. It’s a lovely place to stay, but motel living is not for me,” she said. As a result of those interceptions we have actually turned around 1542 people in those vehicles," Ms Carroll said on Saturday.Ms Carroll said she was at the borders on Friday and it was "incredibly pleasing" that the majority of people had downloaded the new border declaration.Elise Derwin
