Wallabies legend Lote Tuqiri says Australia should get behind his birth country of Fiji as the Pacific nation mounts an underdog charge to win the Rugby World Cup.

Speaking to Skynews.com.au ahead of Fiji’s elimination round clash with England, Tuqiri backed the Pacific nation to pull off an upset and advance to the semi-finals.“They beat England in their last warm up game at Twickenham, they’ve been playing well.”

Wallabies legend Lote Tuqiri has called on Australians to support the Fijian national team for the remainder of the Rugby World Cup. Picture: NCA/Richard Walker England’s forward pack has appeared increasingly commanding throughout the group stages and will pose a hefty challenge, even for the powerful Fijians.

Fiji saw men’s and women’s teams enter into the Super Rugby competition in recent years, with the women’s side winning the title this year after a remarkable comeback run. He pointed to the improvements in other so-called tier two nations Georgia and Portugal at the World Cup, saying the more exposure lower ranked sides had the better they would get.

“They only won two games, against Portugal and Georgia, games that they were expected to win,” Tuqiri said.
