Liber Pater wines have sold for up to $44,500 a bottle and every order has to go through winemaker Loic Pasquet.

| French winemaker Loïc Pasquet’s recreation of Bordeaux wines from the late 19th century earned him the wrath of authorities at home. It’s also attracted customers prepared to pay up to €30,000 for a bottle from his Liber Pater estate.

Pasquet was in his late 20s when he named his estate after an ancient Roman god. Wine had long been a passion. In his boyhood, Pasquet watched his maternal grandfather use his feet to crush the grapes from his vines. From the age of 11, he was focused on finding wines that would keep for “later appreciation”. When he was 18, he had a wine collection of about 1000 bottles.
