AEMO chief executive officer Daniel Westerman said more investment in the national electricity grid was needed. In June, Australia came close to blackouts as several coal-fired plants were hit by unexpected outages. Others suffered disruption others because of shortages in coal supply, while skyrocketing gas prices impacted gas-powered generators.
