Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has faced turbulent times in the wake of allegations he solicited “freebies” from former Qantas CEO Alan Joyce.

WATCH LIVE: Prime Minister Anthony Albanese will face media scrutiny after revelations he solicited Qantas flights while Transport Minister

“I've been completely transparent about this. All of my flights have been declared in an appropriate way,” Mr Albanese said. “There are no accusations that have been made with any specifics at all about any of this. None. None. None.” “And I think that people's families shouldn't be the subject of targeting. That is all that happened. Simple as that ... People get plus one.”

Ms Tebbutt had been the Prime Minister’s plus one up until their relationship ended in 2019 before Mr Albanese declared his current partner as his plus one in 2022.This has appeared to suggest Mr Albanese’s son was not the “plus one” he claimed but instead a plus two, given his long-term partner - and now fiancee - has been his plus one for some time.

Since 2010, Mr Albanese has received from Qantas: an iPad, cookbook, travel wallet, model aircraft, bar cart, NRL tickets, cricket tickets, Midwinter Ball tickets, flight upgrades, accommodation, Chairman’s Lounge membership, Lifetime Platinum status and a luggage tag.The opposition has maintained politicians were within their right to receive and accept flight upgrades when they were offered.

Shadow transport minister Bridget McKenzie has argued the former Qantas CEO needed to be subjected to an inquiry into whether he had a “quid pro quo” with Mr Albanese. “We thought it was the Yes campaign’s support, as you recall, but it turns out it may be a lot more than that.” “We don’t know who’s meeting with decision makers behind closed doors in parliamentary offices. I think we need to do much better on that.”
