This was a record-breaking total. The previous record was set in 2014.

It took awhile as specific individuals, organizations and campuses were acknowledged for their contributions to Penn State Thon 2022.

But around 20 minutes after the 4 o’clock deadline Sunday afternoon, the final total collected during the annual 46-hour weekend long event finally was announced: a record-breaking $13,756,374.50.Last year, the pandemic caused the event to be held virtually and Thon managed to still raise $10,638,078.62.

Every year, Penn State University makes it their goal to raise money in a year long effort for the Four Diamonds Fund, a nonprofit that assist families struggling with childhood cancer treatments by paying for their medical expenses, and generally awareness. Thon is considered as the one of the largest student-run philanthropy in the world. This event takes place every year in the month of February inside the Bryce Jordan Center.
