'We seem to get more done': Regional town breaks record with highest representation of women

At the edge of the Nullarbor in the small West Australian regional town of Norseman, five women and one man make local government history.

As well as being the local delivery man and resident undertaker, Pat Hogan has been a councillor at the Shire of Dundas for 30 years."We seem to get a lot more done with the composition of people that we've got on board," he said."Our ladies who have taken on that role have done it eminently better.But the council was not the only place you could find plenty of women in the town.

The population of Norseman and surrounding communities has been on the decline for a number of years. "Some might say there's no downturn, but this place used to rock'n'roll. It had both pubs going [and] the club going," he said.
