Police exchanged fire with an armed man at Weir Views in Melbourne's outer west on Tuesday, with the gunman locking himself into the home of an unsuspecting family.
A father has thanked police who rescued him and his infant son from a siege in Melbourne's outer west yesterday.
Police allege the 26-year-old then attempted another carjacking at a residence, before moving to a Weir Views property where he was spotted by patrolling police officers. Superintendent Michael Cruse said the gunman was acting "erratically" in the backyard of the property for some time, as officers attempted to negotiate with him.
