Western Australia has confirmed its borders will remain closed to the rest of the country until community transmission of coronavirus has been eliminated along the east coast. 9News

Mr McGowan said he was confident the decision wouldn't affect WA continuing to receive support fromHe said unlike the rest of the country, WA is not in a recession and the state's ongoing mining industry played a big part in that."If we had an outbreak leading to the closure of the mining industry, it would have a devastating effect across the country.

"You imagine the impact on the Commonwealth. I think they now get it, that Western Australia's case is very special." Mr McGowan said he sympathises with families who can't see their loved ones due to the border situation, but he is in the same boat as many of them. "I feel for those people. I also cannot see my mother and father, and my brother, in New South Wales."

He said while his parents struggle using Zoom for video calls, that is the best they can do for the time being.
