For the ruling party, there’s everything to lose.CASON HO: And for the opposition, it’s an existential fight.LIBBY METTAM, WA LIBERAL LEADER: Premier Roger Cook has illustrated he is completely out of his depth.Among the major parties, the incumbent Labor Party who have dominated WA’s parliament for eight years. And the National s who’ve found themselves in the unusual position of being WA’s official opposition.

ROGER COOK: Well, you can't, you can't intervene to the extent that you distort markets, that you create an inflationary effect, or that you essentially price people out of the system. You need to have a functioning market. So, what we do is looked for opportunities to invest where it can create housing opportunities.

CASON HO: For the Liberals, it’s an election about rebuilding a party from the brink after winning only two of 59 seats at the last state election four years ago. CASON HO: But in terms of an answer to the question, did you consult with Aboriginal people about that decision? We want young people who feel confident in investing in their own homes. We want communities where people feel that they can be safe in their community. And we want to ensure that everybody has access to government services such as health and education.
