Housing supply in western Sydney is struggling to meet demand, with a massive shortfall threatening to push locals out onto the streets. MrSamMurden
Western Sydney’s market is slowly becoming more unaffordable for a number of buyers looking to get their first home.
The release of the report coincided with a public forum debate on Thursday in Penrith, featuring a range of speakers including politicians from both major parties. For NSW Labor Shadow Minister for Water, Housing and Homelessness Rose Jackson, part of the issue of housing affordability stems from the many changes that have occurred under governments of either political persuasion.
“Average people feel locked out of their homes, this includes full-time workers who can’t afford to buy a house even with their combined salary.”“The government needs to invest in social and affordable housing for elderly people, particularly those older women who are unemployed and never hear back from the housing commissions they are trying to move into.”
NSW Shadow Minister for Water, Housing and Homelessness Rose Jackson speaking at the event – Supplied “The NSW government, through both the Land and Housing Corporation, the Aboriginal Housing office and the Department of Communities and Justice is on the front line in this challenge.”
