Westpac will pay $8 million to 8000 staff who were underpaid their long-service leave entitlements, in the latest case of underpayment by one of Australia's biggest companies.
As a result, the bank estimated it would pay about $8 million to about 8000 people, including interest, while it would not be demanding staff who were overpaid repay any money.Credit:The bank said its system did not apply the correct methodology for determining long service leave entitlements where staff had changed their work arrangements, such as moving from part-time to full-time work.
Mr Welsh said the bank was taking steps to make sure long service leave was correctly calculated and it would continue to check its processes to make sure staff were properly paid.
