As the first Australian victims of the New Zealand volcano disaster are identified, authorities are contemplating the dangerous task of recovering the bodies of those left on the island.
Six people have been confirmed dead since the eruption, with eight more unaccounted for.
One New Zealand helicopter pilot who helped rescue survivors said he was ready to go back to retrieve the bodiesFears were also raised about whether the bodies would be recoverable at all if the volcano should erupt once more after Graham Leonard, senior volcanologist at GNS Science, said there was a"chance of 40 to 60 per cent of another eruption like Monday in the next 24 hours".
