The first named victim of the White Island eruption was an experienced tour guide "full of life", says former Whakatāne mayor Tony Bonne.Hayden Marshall-Inman has been a tour guide for more than a decade, and he knew the risks associated with the job.The brother, who spoke to Stuff.co on the condition of anonymity, said the family have had no communication with authorities around recovering the bodies.
"To those who have lost or are missing family and friends, we share in your unfathomable grief at this moment in time and in your sorrow," Ms Ardern said.
