Expected conditions for the 2024 Sydney Marathon on Sunday couldn’t be more different from the hot and humid ordeal that was the 2023 event – and that could be good news for those wishing to meet a goal pace or set a personal best.

Sydney temperatures set to plummet to a wintery 17C on Sunday with gusts set to give marathon runners decent tailwind

The extreme heat led to 26 hospitalisations and a slew of runners calling it quits before the finish line. Sydney’s maximum forecast temperature of 17C on Sunday is closer to the June average, and is likely to be the city’s coldest day in over a month. Given the cooler “feels” like temperatures expected, spectators should rug up and are encouraged to have an extra layer or space blanket ready for when their loved ones cross the finish line.

Despite recent early spring heat for the Harbour City, Sunday weather is looking closer to midwinter following two cold fronts flushing out the warmth on Thursday, and again on Saturday. Picture: Sky News Australia
