The ASIC data shows there were 48,128 business registrations in July, compared with 36,024 in July last year, 35,812 in 2018 and 33,399 in 2017. "Right now is a good time to negotiate the lease and the terms. We negotiated a lot of stuff we could not even imagine before," he said. "Having that financial help with accessing the superannuation just eased the financial pressures so I could then concentrate on starting the business," she said.Contact Rhiannon ShineAstrid Bierer-Cooper worked in marketing for a big property developer but also ended up unemployed after the pandemic hit, so she decided to start her own consultancy business."Rather than wait around, go to job interviews, deal with rejections, I just decided to get my own ABN," she said.

Chamber of Commerce and Industry WA chief economist Aaron Morey said he was not surprised by the spike in new business registrations. "This is encouraging. What we see in history is that businesses that start up in difficult economic circumstances can go on to be very successful.
