Stay calm, professional and stick to the facts: There’s ways to address your co-worker’s loud and rude manners.
I work in healthcare. One of my colleagues is unbelievably loud . They humiliate patients and are extremely controlling.
There are two main reasons for this. The first is that nobody is driven entirely by self-interest. You may be feeling anger, impatience or even dislike for your loud and rude colleague, and in part that will come from a “duty of care” to patients and other co-workers. “Tackling this behaviour will also improve patient and service outcomes. Incivility in healthcare contexts has been linked to poorer patient outcomes because it impacts worker performance - decreased effort, increases in absenteeism, presenteeism, reduced work quality, etcetera.”
“It is important to remain calm and keep it professional,” Kavadas says. “It can help if you stick to the facts - only mention behaviour and impacts of the behaviour you have personally witnessed or experienced - and remain focused. The more in control you are, the better you’ll be able to communicate the message.
