Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announces she'll be extending the border bubble to Byron Bay, Lismore, Richmond Valley, Glen Innes and Ballina local government areas from October 1 at 1:00am. Here's how it will work.

If Byron Bay is on your list of school holiday destinations, you're in luck.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has announced she'll be extending the Queensland-New South Wales border bubble to Byron Bay, Lismore, Richmond Valley, Glen Innes and Ballina local government areas from 1:00am on October 1. Chief Health Officer Jeannette Young said low case numbers in those areas prompted the relaxing of restrictions."We've not seen cases along those border areas for quite some time and we've not seen cases north of Sydney for quite a while, so it is safe to open up those areas," Dr Young said.

Deputy Premier Steven Miles said there were roughly 152,000 people who lived in the five local government areas being added to the border bubble.Until October 1st, people from NSW living outside the current border bubble are subjected to hard border closures, meaning they can only fly into Queensland and must quarantine for 14 days at their own expense.
