“A public health emergency of international concern is the highest level of alarm under international health law,” Mr Adhanom said. Australia experienced the sharpest rise in the Western Pacific Region with cases almost doubling from 33 to 64. Suspected mpox cases in Africa have surged past 17,000 with at least 13 countries across the continent impacted, according to the African Union's health watchdog.
