Animal droppings and tracks were then detected before infra-red surveillance cameras photographed the creature. Murphy said it was unlikely the fox crossed the bridge onto Phillip Island because the “Foxcam” mounted there would have detected it coming from the mainland.Credit:“Foxes have been known to swim significant distances in search of new territory and food, and it wouldn’t have been impossible for a fox to swim between San Remo and Phillip Island.”
The fox appears to have reached Phillip Island alone. But Faulkner said it would be a serious concern if there was a breeding pair.
