The outcome will depend on whether MPs and grassroots Tories are minded to reward or punish those who stuck with Boris Johnson, versus those who deserted him.

“We can’t just have aof 20 candidates here. We need those that are actually serious about being prime minister, and actually have a chance of doing so credibly,” backbencher Steve Brine told the BBC.
