OPINION: Acoustically, the brand’s latest travel cans are a step forward. But other features may be a step in the wrong direction.
the first sign of madness? I’ve been asking myself this question a great deal lately, ever since I started wearing Sony’s new WH-1000X M5 noise-cancelling headphones.which I guess makes it all the more pressing.Sony’s latest headphones, you see, have an excellent “Speak-to-Chat” feature that pauses whatever you’re listening to and switches into “ambient” noise-cancelling mode the moment you start to speak or, indeed, sing.
A moment after you open your mouth to tell yourself to get milk on the way home, whatever you’re listening to pauses. Sing along, and the music stops in its tracks as if to say “Do you mind? We’re making music here!”And by “you” and “yourself”, I mean “me” and “myself”, of course.crazy about the radical overhaul Sony has made for this, the Mark 5 version of its industry-leading WH-1000X headphones.
The new design also has a fractionally narrower headband, which is going to make them only less rather than more comfortable . They’re also now covered in a rubbery plastic coating that feels nice but shows up greasy fingerprints more than the M4 model did.
