Daniel Ricciardo's 12-year career in Formula 1 has come to a brutal end as he was officially axed from his team and replaced by a rising star after struggling to yield strong results.

"He has brought a lot of experience and talent to the Team with a fantastic attitude, which has helped everyone to develop and foster a tight team spirit," he said. Ricciardo took to Instagram the same time as his exit was confirmed, telling his more than nine million followers it has been a"wild and wonderful" journey."To the fans who love the sport sometimes more than me haha thank you. It'll always have its highs and lows but its been fun and truth be told I wouldn't change it.
