Wild storms brewing across south-east Queensland
Severe thunderstorms with damaging and locally destructive winds, heavy rain that may lead to flash flooding and very large hail are tracking across south-east Queensland, the Bureau of Meteorology has warned.
A BOM warning issued at 3:30pm said the storms would hit parts of the Brisbane, Gold Coast and Moreton Bay council areas, as well as Ipswich, the Scenic Rim, Lockyer Valley and parts of Logan, Somerset, Southern Downs, Western Downs and Toowoomba. It said severe thunderstorms had been detected near Laidley, Dalby, Fernvale, the area between Boonah and Beaudesert, and the Border Ranges National Park.
The storms are forecast to affect Boonah, Beaudesert and Gatton by 4:05pm and Toowoomba, Caboolture, and the area south-west of Dalby by 4:35pm.
