Wollongong man charged after allegedly pouring petrol over child | ameliamcguiree
A man has been charged after allegedly pouring petrol over a one-year-old child and hitting a woman in the back of the head with a glass.
The 41-year-old man was arrested at home and taken to Wollongong Police Station, where he was charged with three counts of assault, destroy or damage property and stalk/intimidate intend fear etc physical harm. NSW Police said a 48-year-old woman was at her Mount Saint Thomas home with the girl when she was verbally abused by the man. Police said the man is known to the woman but is not related to the child.
Police allege the woman then took the child into a different room and barricaded the door with a pram, but the man forced the door open and poured petrol over the child. The man then allegedly followed the woman. As she washed the child’s face he allegedly hit her over the back of the head with a glass.The child was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics and did not require hospital treatment.The Morning Edition newsletter is our guide to the day’s most important and interesting stories, analysis and insights.
