A woman has been attacked by a dingo while walking on a Queensland island notorious for incidents involving the animals. The woman was walking with a group in the unfenced area of Lake McKenzie on K’gari when she was bitten about 5.30am on Monday. A spokesperson for the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service said the woman was bitten on the back of the leg, causing bruising to the calf muscle, while other members of her group used walking poles to try and move the animal on.
“It has been reported that the untagged female dingo was aggressive, growling, barking, jumping, lunging and attempting to bite at the walking poles,“ the spokesperson said. “QPWS rangers increased patrols in the area and will attempt to identify the dingo involved.” The attack comes after a four-year-old girl was bitten around the chest and abdominal area by a dingo in August while fishing with a group of eight children near NgKala Rocks on the eastern side of the island.
