An Adelaide Court has heard prosecutors don't know why a former Adelaide Brighton Cement manager allegedly deceived her company of millions of dollars to benefit one of its biggest customers.
The court heard she allegedly hid a customer's debts from her own employer and increased their supply limitsGlenda Ivy Burgess, 63 — who was an accounts manager at Adelaide Brighton Cement — has gone on trial in the District Court after pleading not guilty to 18 counts of deception.
Prosecutor Peter Longson told the court Ms Burgess hid Concrete Supplies' debts from her own employer and increased their supply limits, but they didn't know why. "Police have conducted enquiries — they don't show any contact between the defendant and people at Concrete Supplies."Why she did it, we won't be able to help you with."The court heard the systems at Adelaide Brighton Cement were automated – including filling up the concrete tankers and sending the invoices.
